At 11 AM, Wednesday morning our boat left for Alcatraz. We took the MUNI and a tram to get to pier 33, from where the boat left. We went on a tour around the prison with headphones, in which a warden told us stories and the history of the place. The fort on the island was built during the gold rush during the last half of the 1800s’ in order to defend the San Francisco bay. When the military activity stopped due to high running costs they turned it into a prison where around 1500 prisoners spent time between the years1934 – 1963. Many movies has been based on the stories about the prison, for example: The Escape from Alcatraz and The Rock.

We walked along the sea when we got back from “the Rock” and had fish and chips on one of the piers. Before we went back to Britta’s house we went to a park, where we hung out for a while tossing Frisbee and tanned.

When we came back, Britta took us on a tour around the city to her high school at Sacred Heart Cathedral and to the house where “Full House” (for Swedes: “Huset Fullt”) was set. For dinner that night we went to her favorite restaurant, Regent Thai, where we had some sweet Thai food.
